As ChatGPT backlash unfolds across social media, Anthropic has launched a timely new Claude feature that targets users who might be thinking about making the switch. The company said Claude can also now upload saved memories from other AI chatbots so users can carry over preferences and context seamlessly. The shift comes while there is mounting criticism of OpenAI’s ties to the US government online and a demonstrable sentiment shift toward Claude, which has recently shot up app stores.

Anthropic Allows Claude Users to Import Memory

The feature was announced in a Threads post on its official Claude account, with Anthropic stating that paid users can now import memories from other AI chatbots directly into Claude. This enables users to preserve previous context, habits, and preferences without needing to begin again. Though Google is said to be developing a similar capability for its Gemini, Anthropic seems to have beaten it into the market. But the feature is so far available only to Claude’s paid subscribers.

The ‘Cancel ChatGPT’ Movement Just Got a Lot of Traction

The update comes amid a flurry of online criticism aimed at OpenAI and its chatbot ChatGPT. The controversy only grew after the Pentagon cancelled its agreement with Anthropic and Donald Trump, facing president Joe Biden in the elections, ordered all federal agencies to avoid working with Anthropic’s AI.

Things escalated further when OpenAI announced a partnership with the US government to put its models in classified environments. OpenAI had also sketched out red lines for military use, but the announcement set off a chorus of concern online. Reddit boards and social channels soon swelled with posts urging users to cancel their ChatGPT subscriptions and switch over to Claude.
