Sony Reportedly Developing New God Of War Spin-Off Featuring Faye As Protagonist

Recent leaks suggest that Sony Santa Monica Studio might be developing a whole new franchise in the God of War universe. The studio has yet to officially confirm the next mainline God of War entry, but new information leaves the possibility that a standalone action-orientated title is in development. The new title will reportedly feature Faye, Kratos’ wife from the Norse saga, and may be revealed as early as this year.

New Franchise Located in the Señor of War Universe

The leak began circulating thanks to the LinkedIn profile of an ex-senior writer at Sony Santa Monica Studio, who said he had been involved in creating the narrative for a “new franchise in the God of War universe". The profile noted that work had been done on original lore, characters and storylines meant to broaden the celebrated IP. It prompted significant interest from the gaming community and was later reposted on ResetEra.

This mystery project is widely believed to be spearheaded by Cory Barlog, director of God of War (2018), who was said to have been working on a new IP over at Santa Monica.

Faye Tipped as Lead Character

Industry insider NateTheHate has since doubled down, providing more details on the game, which is apparently firmly set within the God of War universe and will star Faye as its protagonist. In contrast to the slower, more cinematic feel of combat in the Norse God of War games, gameplay is reportedly shifting toward fast-paced action.

Another insider, Nick Baker, confirmed the report by claiming that the combat style may be closer to the Devil May Cry series compared to more recent God of War entries. The game aims for a reveal in 2026 and is currently targeting release in the first half of 2027 at the earliest, assuming no delays.

God of War Franchise Status

Faye got an integral part in the Norse saga, even though her death occurs before God of War (2018) begins. She soon appeared in God of War Ragnarök and was played by Debra Ann Woll. In the meantime, Santa Monica has also confirmed it is currently developing a remake of the God of War Greek Trilogy, and just recently shadow dropped the 2D action platformer God of War: Sons of Sparta on PS5.
