CWG 2026: Lovlina Borgohain Misses Gold, Settles For Silver In Women’s 75kg Boxing Final

Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain narrowly missed out on a Commonwealth Games gold medal after suffering a split-decision defeat to Australia's Emma-Sue Greentree in the women's 75kg boxing final on Saturday. The Indian boxer settled for silver after a fiercely contested bout that went the distance.

Lovlina endured a difficult start to the contest, losing the opening round 1-4 as Greentree dictated the early exchanges with aggressive attacking combinations. Facing an uphill task, the Indian star responded superbly in the second round, producing a composed and determined performance to claim the round 4-1, levelling the bout and setting up a thrilling decider.

With the scores locked after two rounds, the gold medal was decided in the final three minutes. Greentree edged the decisive round 4-1, earning a split-decision victory and denying Lovlina what would have been India's sixth boxing gold medal at the Glasgow Games.

Despite the disappointment, Lovlina's silver added another medal to India's outstanding boxing campaign, with the contingent continuing to dominate the sport at the Commonwealth Games 2026.

Earlier in the competition, Jaismine Lamboria struck gold in the women's 57kg category, while Sakshi Choudhary emerged victorious in the women's 51kg final with a dominant unanimous-decision win over England's Ruby White.

Priya Ghanghas overcame Canada's Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh to claim the women's 60kg title, and Arundhati Choudhary outclassed England's Chantelle Reid to win gold in the women's 70kg event. Anamika Hooda also added a gold medal to India's tally, while Hitesh Gulia secured a silver after finishing runner-up in his final.

With Lovlina's silver, India had secured five gold medals and two silver medals from seven boxing finals, underlining one of the nation's finest-ever performances in Commonwealth Games boxing.

Three more Indian boxers were still scheduled to compete in gold medal bouts, giving the contingent an opportunity to further enhance its remarkable medal haul.

Although the coveted gold eluded Lovlina, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist once again showcased her resilience and fighting spirit by recovering from a slow start to push the final into a deciding round.

Her silver medal further strengthened India's boxing campaign and added another chapter to her decorated international career.
