India's impressive weightlifting campaign at the Commonwealth Games 2026 continued on Monday as Bindyarani Devi clinched the bronze medal in the women's 58kg event, handing the country its sixth medal of the Games. The 26-year-old produced a strong overall performance, finishing with a combined lift of 199kg to secure a place on the podium in Glasgow.

Bindyarani lifted 87kg in the snatch and 112kg in the clean and jerk, but narrowly missed out on a higher finish after failing to clear 116kg in her final clean and jerk attempt.

Bindyarani Devi Secures Bronze with 199kg Total

The Manipur weightlifter looked competitive throughout the event, successfully lifting 87kg in the snatch before registering 112kg in the clean and jerk for a combined total of 199kg.

With one attempt remaining, Bindyarani opted for 116kg in a bid to move higher up the standings. However, she was unable to complete the lift, leaving her total unchanged and confirming a bronze-medal finish.

Rafiatu Lawal Defends Commonwealth Title in Style

Nigeria's Rafiatu Folashade Lawal delivered a dominant performance to successfully defend her Commonwealth Games women's 58kg title, finishing with a record-breaking total of 229kg.

The reigning World Championships silver medallist shattered both the Commonwealth and Commonwealth Games records on her way to a second consecutive gold medal, underlining her dominance in the weight category.

Canada's Ann-Sophie Taschereau claimed the silver medal with a total lift of 215kg, while Bindyarani completed the podium with her 199kg effort.

India Continue Weightlifting Dominance at CWG 2026

Weightlifting has once again emerged as one of India's strongest sports at the Commonwealth Games 2026, with Bindyarani adding another medal to the country's growing tally.

Earlier in the Games, Mirabai Chanu scripted history by winning a third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, while Gyaneshwari Yadav claimed silver in the women's 53kg category with a record-breaking performance.

Chanambam Rishikanta Singh, Raja Muthupandi, and Jhandu Kumar also finished on the podium, highlighting India's remarkable depth in weightlifting.

Sixth Medal Boosts India's Campaign
