CWG 2026: Arundhati Choudhary Strikes Gold in Women’s 70kg Boxing, Extends India’s Dominance

India's sensational run in the boxing ring continued at the Commonwealth Games 2026 as Arundhati Choudhary clinched the women's 70kg gold medal with a dominant victory over England's Chantelle Reid, handing the country its fifth boxing gold medal of the Games on Saturday.

Arundhati delivered a composed and technically superior performance throughout the final, controlling the pace of the bout with accurate punches, intelligent movement and excellent ring awareness.

The Indian boxer made an impressive start, taking the opening round 4-1 against Reid to establish an early advantage. She raised the intensity in the second round, completely outclassing her English opponent to earn a 5-0 verdict from the judges and move into a commanding lead heading into the final round.

Needing only to maintain her composure, Arundhati did exactly that, producing another disciplined display to comfortably close out the contest and secure the gold medal, further underlining India's supremacy in boxing at the Glasgow Games.

The triumph marked India's fifth boxing gold medal, capping an extraordinary campaign for the country's pugilists.

Earlier in the competition, Jaismine Lamboria won gold in the women's 57kg category, Sakshi Choudhary claimed the women's 51kg title with a unanimous victory over England's Ruby White, and Priya Ghanghas fought back to defeat Canada's Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh by a 4-1 split decision in the women's 60kg final.

India had also celebrated another gold medal from Anamika Hooda, while Hitesh Gulia added a silver to the nation's boxing tally.

India's boxing contingent has been one of the standout performers at CWG 2026, producing a string of commanding displays across weight categories. The women's team, in particular, has led the charge, consistently converting finals into gold medals with disciplined and attacking performances.
