Brock Lesnar Announces Retirement: 10-Time World Champion Bids Farewell To WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) fan favourite Brock Lesnar has officially announced his retirement, bringing the curtain down on one of the most remarkable careers in the history of combat sports.

The 10-time WWE world champion confirmed his decision following his defeat to rising Nigerian superstar Oba Femi at WWE SummerSlam on August 1, ending months of speculation over his future.

The 49-year-old, who dominated both WWE and UFC during an illustrious career spanning over two decades, addressed the WWE Universe after the event and confirmed that his time inside the squared circle had come to an end.

Brock Lesnar Confirms Retirement

Speaking after his loss, Lesnar admitted that he had been contemplating retirement for quite some time before finally making the decision following SummerSlam.

"I am here today to let the world know that I am retired," Lesnar said.

The former WWE Champion revealed that his previous clash with Oba Femi had already made him question whether he could continue competing at the highest level.

"Saturday was a very emotional day for me. It was kind of weird. When Oba Femi slammed me at WrestleMania, I said, 'I cannot do this anymore. I think I am done.' But the business called, and I still had some fuel in the tank."

Lesnar then confirmed that his SummerSlam appearance would be the final chapter of his in-ring career.

"Saturday, for Brock Lesnar, that is it. That is it for me in the squared circle and everything else," he added.

A Legendary Career Across WWE And UFC

Lesnar retires as one of the most accomplished athletes to ever compete in professional wrestling and mixed martial arts. Nicknamed "The Beast Incarnate," he became one of WWE's biggest attractions after debuting in 2002, capturing multiple WWE Championships and headlining several WrestleMania events.

Away from WWE, Lesnar also enjoyed a historic stint in the UFC, where he became the UFC Heavyweight Champion after defeating Randy Couture in 2008. His crossover success made him one of the few athletes to become a global superstar in both professional wrestling and MMA.

Before entering professional sports, Lesnar built an outstanding collegiate wrestling career. Representing the University of Minnesota, he was a two-time All-American, a two-time Big Ten Champion, and won the NCAA Division I National Championship in 2000 before signing with WWE.

Brock Lesnar Reflects On His Journey

Reflecting on his remarkable career, Lesnar expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him throughout his journey from rural South Dakota to becoming one of combat sports' biggest stars.

"I was just a farm kid from South Dakota with a big dream, a big heart and a big-ass chip on my shoulder. I am just grateful to be 49 years old and have been able to do what I did in this lifetime. I thank God and everybody that supported me," Lesnar commented.

The former champion also had an inspiring message for aspiring athletes, urging young fans to focus on hard work rather than social media fame.

"I want to say to the little kids, I was a little farm kid with a bunch of lint in my pocket. I had big dreams, and I just worked. I think a lot of people with social media platforms see athletes doing things and they leave out the hard work. If kids just stay focused on work and putting time in, good things will happen," he concluded.
