Summer Diet Tips:  Due to rising high temperatures, increased sunlight and humidity, people tend to feel more exhausted and dehydrated in the summer season. To cope with these weather hardships, it is important to keep restoring the lost fluids due to heat and reduce fatigue. Consuming cooling and hydrating foods, along with maintaining adequate fluid intake, becomes essential to keep the body balanced and prevent heat-related health concerns.

In conversation with The Daily Jagran, Dr Samhita Ullod, Assistant Professor, SDMIAH, Bangalore, lists down foods that will keep your body cool and full of energy.

Cooling And Hydrating Foods For Summer:

1. Fruits With Water-Rich Content

Fruits like watermelon, muskmelon or cucumber are rich in water content and can be consumed, which helps in maintaining fluid balance and summer exhaustion.

2. Coconut Water

Tender coconut water can be consumed, which is a natural electrolyte.

3. Fruits Packs With Vitamin C

Vitamin C-rich foods and fruits can be consumed in the form of juices. In summer, people are more susceptible to low immunity and may very easily fall sick. Vitamin C naturally enhances immunity, which is required to protect the body against different seasonal diseases.

4. Buttermilk

Freshly prepared buttermilk added with jeera powder, choriander, or mint helps to keep the body cool. It also aids proper digestion.

5. Homemde Juices

Home-made drinks like lemon Juice, Mango juice or Aam Panna – help prevent electrolyte imbalance and are very helpful in conditions like heatstroke.

6. Summer Special Drink

A special drink prepared with dates, dry grapes, jaggery, and Cardamom can be frequently consumed. It boosts the energy instantaneously and reduces fatigue.

7. Drink Made Of Sesame Seeds

Sesame seed drink, which is prepared by pounding sesame seeds with jaggery and mixing with water to form a drink. It acts as a natural strength enhancer and helps reduce exhaustion during summer.

8. Chia Seeds

Adding Chia seeds to juices or drinks helps the body keep cool and tackle heat.

9. Rice-Based Meals

Foods like rice-based meals, which are light, and moong dal can be used regularly. This is light for digestion and provides instant energy.

10. Bottle Gourd

More usage of bottle gourd, ash gourd or ridge gourd along with Dal helps to reduce internal heat.

It is always better to consume freshly prepared homemade food rather than outside food, as it is safer, lighter, and more suitable for digestion during summer.

12. Seasonal Fruits

Additionally, seasonal fruits are recommended over exotic varieties, as they are naturally suited to the climate, more nourishing, and help the body adapt better to the heat.
