Himachal Pradesh Day is celebrated annually on 15th April. The day marks the formation of the Indian state as a province of India. The state is a popular tourist destination for people across the country and beyond. Often admired for its picturesque mountains and serene hills, surprisingly, the state also has a rich food culture, and its local food also deserves equal appreciation.

Himachal Pradesh’s food culture is a perfect blend of unique flavours and seasonal fruits and vegetables, making it particularly special for the summer season.

Here’s A List Of 6 Traditional Himachali Dishes To Try This Summer

1. Redu/ Kheru

Redu is a comforting side dish and is a staple in Himachali cuisines, often paired with Rice and Lentils. It is quick to cook, takes barely 5 minutes to prepare and tangy spiced yoghurt dish. All you need to make this curd-based curry is to temper the curd with cumin, ginger, garlic, and fenugreek seeds, with classic spices like turmeric and red chilli powder.

2. Mahani / Mani

Another is Mahani, also known as Mani. This traditional Himachali side dish is refreshing, tangy, sweet and salty. It is typically made with raw mangoes, jaggery, and spices like fennel and roasted cumin seeds. Personally, being from Himachal, Mani is my favourite summer dish.

3. Karali/ Kachnar

Another seasonal delicacy of Himachal is Karali, known as Kachnar in Hindi. This is a kind of Raita made of flower buds from the wild plants, which is prepared by adding some spices to them.
