On the occassion of the Islamic New Year 2026, which is also known as Muharram, here is a list of 10 inspiring teachings from Prophet Muhammad for spiritual upliftment. From kindness to manners and character, each of these eternal lessons reminds us of the responsibility of a human being to make the world a better place to live in.
1. Kindness
“Be kind, for whenever kindness becomes part of something, it beautifies it. Whenever it is taken from something, it leaves it tarnished.”
Kindness is the only way of living. Prophet Muhammad has advocated for kindness in everything a man does, and he believed that a deed done with kindness adds more meaning and beauty to it. Additionally, when a deed is done without kindness, it takes away all the good parts from it.

“The worst among people is the double-faced person. The most honourable amongst the people are the most righteous amongst you”
Double-faced people are insincere, deceptive, or manipulative. Prophet Mohammad has called them the worst among the rest. While for him, the most honourable person is someone who is most righteous, who knows the difference between right and wrong, who has empathy for not just humans but also towards children, animals and even his enemies.
3. A Man Of Character And Manners
“The best among you is the one who doesn’t harm others with his tongue and hands. The best among you are those who have the best manners and character.”
Character is the one thing that truly mattered for the Holy Prophet. For him, the best kind of human is someone who never fights, physically or verbally and has manners and character, which is reflected through his every action.
4. Faith
"The believers who show the most perfect Faith are those who have the best behaviour, and the best of you are those who are the best to their wives".
Utmost faith is one thing that is preached by the Holy Prophet. And the ones with faith are known for their best behaviour, especially towards their wives. How a man treats his wife is a reflection of the kind of man he is.
5. Rich Soul
“The greatest of richness is the richness of the soul.”
Prophet Muhammad has always suggested that his followers focus on what is inside, rather than what they hold outside. For him, the richest person on earth is not the one who has materialistic possessions, but the one who has wisdom, contentment, and integrity to lead an honest life.

“There is reward for kindness to every living thing.”
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the last messenger of Allah. He was the leader of thousands of Muslims, yet he was someone who always credited kindness as a virtue of god. Follow his path and be kind towards every living creature, no matter if it's a stray animal, your enemy or someone else.
7. Fight The Evil Within Yourself
“The greatest jihad is to battle your own soul, to fight the evil within yourself.”
According to Prophet Muhammad, the greatest struggle in life is the fight between you and what your soul wants. The holy Prophet advocates fighting against internal struggles like ego, selfish desires, and inner evil.
8. Control Anger
“The strongest among you is the one who controls his anger.”
The Prophet Muhammad is a perfect example of patience and control over his emotions. He is someone who has always preached to control anger in the face of adversity. Anger brings no good for everyone. He said that the strong man is not the one who can overpower others, but the one who controls himself when he is angry.
9. Good Deeds
“God does not look at your forms and possessions, but he looks at your hearts and your deeds.”
Every action of the Prophet Muhammad was a reflection of kindness and good deeds. He believed and made his people understand that for Almight, how you look or what you have is way more important than what kind of person you are, and if your heart and your deeds come from compassion and good intentions.
10. Feed The Hungry
“Feed the hungry and visit a sick person, and free the captive, if he be unjustly confined. Assist any person oppressed, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.”
Muslims across the globe regard Prophet Muhammad as ‘Al-Ameen,’ which simply means someone trustworthy. And that is what he taught people, to be honest and trustworthy, to be there to feed the hungry, to support a sick person, and kindness has no religion, help and be kind, regardless of religion.
