When Will Monsoon Reach Delhi-NCR? Check IMD's Prediction As It Advances Across Karnataka And Tamil Nadu

Monsoon 2026: The southwest monsoon has already set in over Kerala on Thursday, bringing the season’s first widespread rainfall to the state. The arrival of the monsoon three days later than the normal date (June 1) has further fuelled discussion over when it will reach Delhi-NCR, a region currently reeling under scorching heat conditions.

IMD Tracks Progress

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) expects the monsoon to cover the entire country by mid-July. In a weather bulletin, released on Friday, the IMD noted that the southwest monsoon has advanced further over parts of India, with weather conditions continuing to support its gradual spread across the country.

According to IMD, the monsoon has now progressed into more parts of the Arabian Sea, including the southwest, west central and east central regions, as well as the entire Lakshadweep islands. It has also covered Kerala, Mahe, parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and sections of the Comorin area.

The IMD added that conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the monsoon over the next 2-3 days into more parts of central India, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, the northeastern states, and surrounding regions.

When Will Monsoon Reach Delhi-NCR?

In Delhi-NCR, the monsoon is typically expected to arrive around the last week of June. According to IMD’s monsoon map, the nearest contour lines suggest that Delhi-NCR is likely to receive monsoon rainfall around June 25-30. In some parts, the monsoon may arrive slightly later, extending to the very end of June or even early July.

Meanwhile, pre-monsoon activity has intensified in many areas of Delhi-NCR, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, and is expected to continue for the next two to three days.
