State Bureau, Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, approved 24 key proposals during a meeting held on Wednesday. The decisions cover multiple departments, including food and civil supplies, transport, irrigation, excise, and law, along with major financial relief measures for farmers, vehicle owners, and government lawyers.
Yogi Cabinet Approves 24 Key Proposals
The Yogi Adityanath-led cabinet gave the green signal to proposals from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, specifically regarding its maize procurement policy, as well as proposals from the Prisons, Irrigation, Excise, Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply, Agriculture, and Stamp and Registration departments.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for maize was fixed at Rs 2,400 per quintal. According to Jagran.com report, the period for government procurement of maize will run from June 5 to July 31, and procurement arrangements will be implemented across several districts.

The cabinet also approved a new compensation policy regarding the death of inmates. Electric buses will operate in 18 cities under the GCC (Gross Cost Contract) model, and AC electric buses will be deployed in major cities. The honorariums and allowances of government lawyers were increased; land was sanctioned for a registry office in Mohanlalganj; and approval was granted for the construction of new prisons in five districts.
Lawyer Fee Revision
A key proposal involved increasing the fees paid to government lawyers. The fees and allowances of government advocates representing the UP government, from the District Courts to the High Court and the Supreme Court have been increased by up to 50 percent. The fees for the Advocate General had not been revised since 2012, nor had the fees for other government advocates since 2016.
Government lawyers posted in District Courts currently receive a monthly retainer of Rs 9,000, which will be now increased to Rs 14,000. Additionally, the fee per hearing is set to rise from Rs 1,650 to Rs 2,500. The retainer for Additional District Government Advocates will also increase from Rs 7,200 to Rs 11,000, and their per-hearing fee may rise from Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,300. The Advocate General currently receives a monthly retainer of Rs 75,000, which is proposed to be increased to Rs 1.25 lakh, while their per-hearing fee is likely to rise from Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000.
OTS Scheme
Moreover, the Transport Department’s proposed One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme offers not only a complete waiver of penalties but also a concession of up to approximately 35 percent on the principal tax amount. This scheme is expected to provide significant relief to over 8.48 lakh vehicle owners with outstanding dues, while also helping the government recover long-pending revenue. Effective January 30, a ‘One-Time Tax’ system has been implemented across the state for light commercial vehicles weighing up to 7.5 tons.
According to Transport Department data, approximately 29.15 lakh vehicles were registered in this category as of January 30. Of these, around 8.50 lakh vehicles have outstanding dues totaling Rs 1,853 crore, comprising Rs 1,073 crore in principal tax and Rs 780 crore in penalties. Earlier OTS schemes provided relief only on penalties. The department believes that this move will encourage vehicle owners to clear their dues voluntarily and improve revenue collection.
