In a significant political development, the Vijay-led TVK has received support from the Left parties CPI and CPM along with the VCK as per India Today report.

BJP MLA Tarunjyoti Tewari said the moment is emotional for party workers who dedicated years of hard work to strengthen the BJP in Bengal. 

The suspense over West Bengal’s new Chief Minister may end today as the BJP Legislature Party is scheduled to hold an important meeting shortly. During the meeting, party leaders are expected to discuss and finalise the name of the CM candidate.

DMK MP Kanimozhi thanked Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for his support to the party amid volatile political developments in Tamil Nadu. "Thank you for the solidarity and support," Kanimozhi wrote on X.

Congress MP from Virudhunagar Manickam Tagore hit back at BJP National General Secretary B. L. Santosh over his “egg on its face” remark amid the Tamil Nadu government formation row. “In a democracy, people decide who will form the Government. People have already decided. Thiru. Vijay will be the CM,” Tagore said. The Congress MP further alleged that the BJP was using Governor R. V. Arlekar to delay the process.“ BJP is using Governor to ‘buy’ Time and MLAs. Don’t worry, people are with us and buyers like you will have egg of their face,” he said.

Congress MP from Virudhunagar Manickam Tagore accused Governor R. V. Arlekar of acting at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah amid the ongoing government formation process in Tamil Nadu. “The governor should stop working on the behest of Amit Shah and Modi. What he is doing is constitutionally wrong. Governor delaying the claim by TVK is not going to help BJP in anyway,” Tagore said.

VCK president and Lok Sabha MP Thol Thirumavalavan on Friday said the party would decide on extending support to Vijay-led TVK only after discussions with its high-level committee and after the Left parties announce their stand. “Today we have a meeting with our high-level committee members. We are going to discuss this current political crisis, and we’ll decide after the decisions of the left parties. We are waiting for their decisions. This is my message,” Thirumavalavan said in Chennai. Reacting to speculation over a possible DMK-AIADMK alliance, the VCK chief said, “It is just a speculation. We’ll wait and see.”

Congress workers in Madurai staged a protest against Governor Rajendra Arlekar after he declined Vijay’s claim to form the government. The Governor reportedly asked the TVK chief to return only after securing the support of 118 MLAs required to prove a legislative majority in the Assembly.

A supporter of TVK Chief Vijay staged a protest outside Lok Bhavan in Chennai against Governor RV Arlekar for not inviting the TVK chief to form the next government despite the party emerging as the single-largest formation in the Assembly elections. Police later removed the protester from the spot.

Amidst the ongoing political deadlock in Tamil Nadu, reports suggest the AIADMK is considering an exit from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) following its third-place finish in the 2026 Assembly elections. Internal divisions have sharpened as senior leaders reportedly push for a strategic realignment with Vijay’s TVK, despite the BJP high command’s efforts to keep the alliance intact to block a Congress-backed government, India Today reported.

AIADMK senior leader and former Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha M. Thambidurai met AIADMK General Secretary and former Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K. Palaniswami at his residence amid ongoing political developments in Tamil Nadu. When asked whether EPS would become the next Chief Minister, Thambidurai replied, “Wait and see.”

Speaking in Chennai, TVK leader P Venkataramanan hinted that TVK could be close to forming the government in Tamil Nadu amid ongoing political developments in the state. When asked whether the party had the required numbers to form the government, Venkataramanan said, “Give me one hour time, we will update you in one hour.”Asked further if TVK was set to form the government, he replied, “Sure.”

Tensions intensified in Howrah after a bomb attack allegedly left two BJP workers injured. According to BJP leaders, Trinamool Congress workers led by local TMC leader Shamim Ahmed assaulted BJP supporters in the area. The party alleged that bricks and stones were hurled during the clash and crude bombs were also thrown. A video from the incident purportedly captured attackers raising religious slogans.

Tamil Nadu’s post-election drama has entered a constitutional grey zone, with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar declining to immediately invite Vijay’s TVK to form the government, citing the lack of an “established” majority. TVK, with 108 seats, and Congress, with five, remain short of the 118-seat mark required in the 234-member Assembly. Sources said the Governor sought clarity on the “magic number” and asked Vijay to furnish proof of support from legislators before proceeding.

Mamata Banerjee’s government’s term officially ended on Thursday, with the formal tenure of the previous administration lasting until May 7. On Thursday, the Governor issued a notification dissolving the 17th West Bengal Legislative Assembly, effectively bringing its existence to a close.

CPM state secretary TT Shanmugam said that, constitutionally, TVK should be given the first opportunity to form the government in Tamil Nadu following the hung Assembly verdict. Speaking in Chennai, Shanmugam said, “According to the Constitution, it is TVK that should be allowed to form the government. We have never seen a situation like this in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, and now we have a hung Assembly.” He said Governor RN Ravi should invite TVK president C. Joseph Vijay to form the government as his party was leading.
