Dharmendra Pradhan Steps Down As Education Minister

Joshi was given the additional charge after BJP MP Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down as the Union Education Minister over NEET row. In his resignation letter, Pradhan said he had stepped down to ensure that the situation arising from the protests over examination irregularities was not exploited by "anti-national forces." Notably, Joshi already serves as the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy.

In a letter shared on X, Pradhan wrote, "The situation that has emerged at Jantar Mantar and elsewhere in the country should not be exploited by anti-national forces. The unity of the country must remain intact. The future of every student in India should not get entangled in legal complications. Keeping these considerations in mind, I have sent my resignation to the Hon'ble Prime Minister.”

Pradhan's resignation was later accepted by President Droupadi Murmu, who then entrusted Joshi with the additional responsibility of the Ministry of Education. A statement released by the President's office read, "President Droupadi Murmu, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan. Further, as advised by the Prime Minister, the President has directed that Pralhad Joshi, Cabinet Minister, be assigned the charge of the Ministry of Education, in addition to his existing portfolio."
