The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta of making a controversial remark about "every Ram" needing to be killed to cleanse society, after sharing a video that purportedly shows her making the statement. The alleged remark has triggered a political controversy, with AAP describing it as “blasphemy” and questioning Gupta over the comments. Earlier in the day, BJP claimed that the video was fake and added that it was generated by an artificial intelligence tool.

The controversy has intensified the political confrontation between opposition parties and the BJP, with the context of the viral video and the interpretation of the alleged statement becoming central to the dispute.

CM Gupta responds to viral video

When reporters asked CM Gupta about the purported viral video, she alleged that the opposition parties were jobless and focused only on her instead of highlighting the work being done by her government. “All I can say is that people of AAP and Congress are jobless. They have no work. If they are focusing only on the Delhi CM, then accompany me everywhere. If they have to see something, they should look at our work. They do not discuss the good work being done here,” Gupta said.

What Did Rekha Gupta Say?

The controversy centres on a video clip circulated by the opposition party, which accused Gupta of making a remark that hurt religious sentiments. The AAP alleged that the Chief Minister's words were contrary to the reverence associated with Lord Ram among Hindus.

The party shared the clip on social media platform X, where its leaders criticised the reported statement. The full context of the speech was not independently established in the material available at the time of filing this report.

AAP Calls Remark 'Blasphemy', Says Sanatanis Are Ashamed

AAP leader and former Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj shared an excerpt of the video and directly accused the Chief Minister of blasphemy.

“CM Rekha Gupta says, ‘Jab tak Har ek RAM Mara Na Jaye, Samaj Saaf Suthra Na Ho Jaye’,” Bharadwaj wrote in the post.

The AAP subsequently issued a strong statement against Gupta, claiming her reported remark reflected the mentality of what it called the “Ram-drohi” BJP.

“Today, every Sanatani and Ram bhakt is ashamed of CM Rekha Gupta. This is the height of shamelessness and reflects the core mentality of the Ram-drohi BJP. Shame on you!” the party said.

The party's criticism focused on the use of Lord Ram's name in a statement about killing and cleansing society. It also accused the BJP of contradicting the religious values it invokes in its political messaging.

Congress Targets Rekha Gupta And PM Modi

Congress leader Priyanka Kakkar also criticised the Delhi Chief Minister, linking the reported remark to the BJP's political messaging around the concept of Ram Rajya.

“Rekha Gupta is killing Ram; Modi ji has already killed Ramrajya,” Kakkar said.

Her statement extended the criticism to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the BJP leadership of failing to uphold the ideals associated with Ram Rajya.

The remarks added to the political backlash against Gupta, with opposition leaders using the video to question the Chief Minister's choice of words and the BJP's position on religious and cultural issues.
