Gurugram residents will be allowed to burst green firecrackers for only two days this Diwali, following directions from the Supreme Court. The district administration has permitted their use on November 7 and 8, after which a complete ban on firecrackers will come into force again from November 9.

Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh said that only green firecrackers certified by the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) will be permitted. Their use will be restricted to two time slots on both days: 6 am to 7 am and 8 pm to 10 pm.

The administration has also temporarily restored licences for traders selling green firecrackers from November 4 to 6. Sales will be permitted only through traders licensed by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) and at designated locations. The sale or use of uncertified firecrackers will invite legal action.

Firecrackers Banned Within 300 Metres Of Hospitals, Schools

The district administration has imposed additional restrictions on the sale and use of firecrackers near sensitive locations. Bursting firecrackers will be prohibited within a 300-metre radius of hospitals, nursing homes, primary and district health centres, old-age homes, educational institutions and notified silence zones.

Firecrackers containing barium, products without NEERI certification and stringed firecrackers will also remain prohibited.

Gurugram Administration Steps Up Monitoring

To enforce the restrictions, monitoring teams have been formed at district and block levels. Police and administrative officials will keep watch over designated firecracker sale points and verify product details, manufacturer registrations and QR codes against information available on the NEERI website.
