  1. Delhi Metro to close 57 key stations from 9 PM tonight.
  2. CJP protest on Oct 10 declared illegal under Section 163.
  3. Railways cancel trains to New Delhi, Nizamuddin ahead of protest.

Ahead of proposed demonstrations in the national capital on October 10, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the closure of entry and exit gates at 57 key metro stations across multiple lines, starting at 9:00 PM tonight. The precautionary measures follow the enforcement of Section 163 across Delhi, with Delhi Police declaring any unauthorised gatherings, including the proposed Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest, strictly illegal.

The closures starting tonight will continue through October 10, with interchange facilities remaining available at all affected stations except for the New Delhi metro station.

Other key stations where entry and exit gates will remain closed include Janpath, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market, Jama Masjid, Chandni Chowk, Hauz Khas, and INA.

Entry and exit gates at 57 Delhi Metro stations, including Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, and Kashmere Gate, will remain closed from 9:00 PM on Friday until further notice for security reasons ahead of the proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday.

Railways also have been reportedly ordered the cancellation of all the mail and express trains to New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10, citing possibility of heavy traffic congestion near these stations. While the cancellations have been announced, the authorities have not confirmed whether the decision was taken due to the demonstrations.

In a letter dated October 8, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Transport Range) stated that metro train frequency at the identified stations may also be reduced, citing the likelihood of unruly crowd movement toward sensitive locations.

"In view of the proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in New Delhi District on 10.10.2026, and likelihood of unruly mob movement towards sensitive locations, frequency of Metro trains passing through the following Metro stations may be reduced and their entry/exit gates may be closed from 09:00 PM on 09.10.2026, continuing on 10.10.2026 till the situation normalizes"

The closure follows a request by Delhi Police to the DMRC in view of the proposed protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations in New Delhi district on October 10, citing the likelihood of "unruly movement" towards sensitive locations.

Delhi Police has warned against the proposed Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest on October 10, stating that Section 163 is in force in the national capital and any gathering would be considered illegal.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shrishti Pandey said protests were not permitted at Jantar Mantar or any other location while the restrictions remained in force, warning that the police would take legal action against unauthorized gatherings.

“Section 163 is in effect, meaning protests are not permitted—neither at Jantar Mantar nor anywhere else. Any gathering will be considered illegal, and we would be compelled to take necessary legal action against it,” Pandey said.

However, there is no official confirmation yet on which stations will remain closed until tomorrow. This comes after the Supreme Court on Friday directed the Centre and authorities to ensure there is no complete ban on the movement of Delhi Metro and trains into the capital during the CJP protest on October 10, stating that they cannot bring everything to a halt.

The apex court has asked authorities to reconsider the restrictions and allow metro and railway services to operate in a suitably regulated manner to prevent public inconvenience, keeping the principle of proportionality in mind. This essentially means the metro has been asked to resume services after a 3 to 4-hour restriction rather than shutting down completely.

While the DMRC has not yet released a list of specific stations, the following key stations are likely to remain shut.
