Police in Bihar’s Vaishali district have uncovered a major marijuana smuggling operation, recovering 38.6 kg of the banned substance from five bags aboard a bus travelling from Jaynagar to Patna. Five people were arrested in connection with the case, including three minors between the ages of 13 and 16, police said on Tuesday.
Bus Stopped During Police Check
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team from Bhagwanpur Police and the Patna Prohibition Department set up a checkpoint at Bhagwanpur Adda Chowk. Officers stopped a bus travelling towards Patna and began checking passengers they found suspicious. During the search, police found packets of marijuana concealed inside the school bags carried by the minors. A total of 38 kg of the banned substance was recovered.

Five Held Under Operation Neelkanth
The five suspects were taken into custody as part of 'Operation Neelkanth'. Police said the group was travelling to Patna to supply the drugs. Legal proceedings have been started against all the accused. The recovered marijuana has been seized by the police. Investigators are trying to trace where the drugs came from and find the person or group that was supposed to receive the consignment in Patna.
Recent Cannabis Seizure
Just two days before the latest seizure, police had recovered around 72 kg of cannabis from two luxury cars near the Bhagwanpur overbridge and arrested five alleged smugglers. The back-to-back seizures have raised concerns over the presence of an active cannabis trafficking network in the area.
Meanwhile, the involvement of three minors has also raised concerns about the use of young people in illegal drug trafficking networks in Bihar. The state has prohibition laws, making the alleged movement of narcotics an added concern for authorities.
