A horrific accident occurred on Wednesday night in Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh on the Varanasi-Rewa National Highway near Badka Mod in the Drummondganj area. Eight people including four men, two women, and two children died in the accident. A truck carrying chickpeas coming from Madhya Pradesh reportedly lost its brakes on a slope and went out of control. 

What Led To Collision?

The truck first hit a container, then collided with a Bolero and a Swift Dzire, causing a major pile-up. The impact was so severe that the Bolero caught fire after hitting the road divider and and all the occupants were burnt alive. According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 pm on the Mirzapur–Rewa National Highway near the Barka Mod intersection.

Car Driver Succumbs To Injuries

Upon receiving the information, police and fire brigade teams immediately reached the spot. The truck driver, who was seriously injured in the accident, was rushed to hospital but later died during treatment. Rescue and relief operations were delayed due to the intense fire at the site. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the incident and directed officials to speed up relief and rescue efforts.

Union Minister Anupriya Patel Expresses Grief

Union Minister and MP from Mirzapur Anupriya Patel expressed grief over the incident, calling it "heartbreaking". She wrote on X, “The news of the untimely demise of several people in the horrific road accident that occurred in the Mirzapur parliamentary constituency is extremely heartbreaking and soul-wrenching. I pray to God that He grants a place at His divine feet to the departed souls and bestows upon the bereaved families the strength to endure this immense sorrow. I wish for the swift recovery of the injured. Om Shanti.
