"It seems that the political drama in Karnataka is still not over. Siddaramaiah, who until yesterday was the Chief Minister of Karnataka, resigned under pressure from the high command. He also clearly stated that he had been offered a Rajya Sabha seat, but he declined it," IANS quoted Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Nirupam.

Former Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Friday said no decision had yet been taken regarding the formation of the new Cabinet in the state, adding that a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting had been convened for Saturday.

Shivakumar said discussions with the Congress high command were still underway and all party MLAs had been asked to remain present in Bengaluru for the meeting.

"Everything is happening as requested by the high command. Nothing has been decided. Tomorrow we have called the CLP meeting, our central leaders have to come. We have to discuss with our high command. We have asked all MLAs to be present in Bengaluru. Apart from that, nothing else is there," said Shivakumar.

A high-level meeting of senior Congress leaders, including outgoing Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and senior leader KJ George, was held in New Delhi on Friday to discuss the formation of the new government in Karnataka.

Shivakumar also met other leaders of the Congress in a hotel in the national capital, earlier in the day. The developments come after Siddaramaiah resigned from the Chief Minister's position on Thursday.

Following Siddaramaiah's resignation as Karnataka Chief Minister, senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Friday described the development as a "smooth transition" and said the change in leadership had been planned when Siddaramaiah assumed office for a second term.

Speaking to ANI, Moily said Siddaramaiah had served both the party and the state effectively and expressed confidence that the Congress government would remain stable under the new leadership.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President and former Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, on Friday paid glowing tribute to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah following his resignation from the top post, describing his political journey as a symbol of resilience, perseverance and commitment to social justice.

The remarks have assumed significance as Shivakumar is a strong contender for the Chief Minister's post and the leadership tussle between Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah for a long period threatened to dent the image of the party.

The Congress high command will convene a crucial meeting in Bengaluru on Saturday, May 30, to elect a new Chief Minister. Senior leader and former minister HK Patil told ANI on Friday that the Congress Legislature Party meeting will be held at 4 pm on May 30.

A day after resigning as the chief minister of Karnataka, Congress leader Siddaramaiah met Rahul Gandhi at Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence on Friday morning. He was accompanied by his son Yathindra. The meeting is seen as significant because Siddaramaiah will discuss his future course with the Congress leadership, after having already declined a Rajya Sabha seat.

While Shivakumar is almost certain to become the next chief minister, Siddaramaiah stated that the final decision will be taken by the Congress top brass. Karnataka minister K H Muniyappa said that a plan has already been formulated regarding the state’s Chief Minister transition. Amid intense political speculation in Karnataka, Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot is expected to arrive in Bengaluru this evening by a special flight, sources said.

"It is a misfortune for Karnataka that this situation has arisen due to the imprudence of the Congress party's national leadership. They should have made a decision regarding this a year ago...The MLAs lack the necessary funds to carry out their work. Ministers are unsure how long they will remain in their posts, and the administrative officers are in a state of confusion. It would be good if a decision were finally taken now; it really doesn't matter who ultimately takes the helm. However, true to the culture long prevailing within the Congress party in Karnataka, everyone is fighting solely for their own personal gain vying for spoils, power, and position. No one seems to have any genuine interest in the development of Karnataka...This situation is truly unfortunate and regrettable for Karnataka," said BJP MP Lehar Singh Siroya on on Karnataka CM tussle.

Sources said Yatheendra Siddaramaiah, son of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is likely to be inducted into the new cabinet expected to be formed under DK Shivakumar’s leadership.

The political journeys of Siddaramaiah and Nitish Kumar show the rise and gradual decline of socialist politics in India.

Both leaders emerged from the post-Emergency socialist wave of the 1970s–80s, built on anti-Congress politics and social justice ideals. Siddaramaiah entered the Karnataka Assembly in 1983 as a Lok Dal candidate, while Nitish Kumar won his first Bihar election in 1985 on a Janata Party ticket.

Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot reached his home in Nagda, Ujjain, to meet his ailing wife amid the ongoing political developments in Karnataka.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s resignation letter was submitted to Pankaj Kumar Mehta, Private Secretary to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, amid the ongoing leadership transition in Karnataka.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah spoke to cabinet colleagues about the state’s financial management and the challenges faced by his government over the past three years. Karnataka Minister G Parameshwara said, "The Chief Minister has called all the ministers for breakfast and before he resigns, he wants to thank all the ministers for their cooperation. I am not aware whether he (Siddaramaiah) was offered a position in Delhi; it is up to the high command."

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah informed ministers during the breakfast meeting that he would step down from the post after lunch. According to reports, the resignation process will go ahead despite Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot being away from Bengaluru.

Amid strong speculations that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will tender his resignation to pave the way for the Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to take over the reins of Karnataka, Lok Bhavan officials said on Thursday that the former has not yet sought time to meet Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
