Amid US naval blockade of Iranian ports around the Strait of Hormuz, a Marshall Islands-flagged LPG carrier, MT Sarv Shakti, carrying Indian cargo, safely crossed the Strait on Saturday. The vessel is expected to reach Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam on May 13.

MT Sarv Shakti Safely Crosses Strait Of Hormuz

According to news agency ANI report, citing official sources, the vessel is carrying approximately 46,313 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and has a 20-member crew onboard, including 18 Indian nationals. The sources confirmed that the ship completed its passage through the Strait of Hormuz safely on May 2, and is scheduled to arrive at Visakhapatnam on Wednesday, May 13.

The news agency quoted the source as saying, “MT Sarv Shakti (IMO No. 9350599), carrying 46,313 MT of LPG (Indian cargo), with 20 crew members onboard, including 18 Indians, has safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz today, 02 May 2026, and is expected to arrive at Visakhapatnam on 13 May 2026.”

India Assures Safe Maritime Operations

Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways issued an update regarding maritime safety and shipping operations amid conflict in West Asia. The Ministry stated that all Indian seafarers in the region are safe and no incident involving Indian-flagged vessels has been reported in the past 24 hours.

According to a press release, the Ministry “continues to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Indian Missions, and maritime stakeholders to ensure seafarer welfare and uninterrupted maritime operations.” The government has also assured that despite the ongoing geopolitical situation, it has ensured that 100 per cent supply is being maintained for domestic LPG, domestic PNG, and CNG.

In the same press release, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas outlined measures that have been taken to ensure uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG in view of the evolving situation in West Asia. It also advised citizens to avoid panic purchase of petrol, diesel and LPG.
