West Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Wednesday said a legislative party meeting will be held on May 8 at 4 pm to elect the leader of the legislative party. He added that the swearing-in ceremony will take place on May 9.

State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya, National General Secretary Sunil Bansal and other party leaders arrived at Nabanna in Kolkata for an important meeting.

Congress leader Girish Chodankar says party has backed Vijay’s TVK, informed top leadership, and expects the Governor to invite him to form the government, calling the people’s mandate “supreme.”

Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya stated that the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP government will take place on Saturday, on the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti. The ceremony will take place at Kolkata's historic Brigade Parade Ground. 

The reports suggest that a section of AIADMK wants to support the TVK; however, party leaders have confirmed that the final decision will be taken by the top brass. 

The BJP has criticised Congress for supporting Vijay's TVK in Tamil Nadu, causing a split with ally DMK. DMK labelled Congress's decision a 'backstab'.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari, who defeated West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur and secured Nandigram for a third term in the recent assembly polls, on Wednesday said he would vacate one of the two seats within 10 days.

"I will vacate one seat within 10 days. The party will decide which one I retain. I will not forget my responsibility towards the people of Bhabanipur and Nandigram," Adhikari said.

Ahead of the new government formation in West Bengal, all retired bureaucrats previously appointed by outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been barred from their offices.

Congress has announced its decision to extend support to Vijay's TVK. "Our support shall be conditional upon the TVK keeping out of this alliance any communal forces that do not believe in the Constitution of India," the party said.

According to a report by news agency ANI, police personnel and Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) were attacked while investigating previous violence in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali.

Speaking to ANI, Inspector General of Police (Barasat Range) Amit P Javalgi said, "This is the Najat police station area. In a place called Bamanberi within the Sarberia Gram Panchayat, some houses were attacked yesterday. Police arrived here to investigate along with CAPF (Central Armed Police Forces) personnel, and they were attacked. The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nazat was shot in the leg, some CAPF jawans sustained minor injuries, and a lady constable was also injured. They were immediately sent to the hospital."

According to a report by the news agency ANI, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit on Thursday, May 7. He will chair a key meeting with senior BJP leaders and core committee members.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Wednesday confirmed that TVK Chief Vijay is meeting with him today. He has also written a letter to him.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Caretaker CM of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, said, "There is an indication that oath-taking will be post May 11 because we have invited the Prime Minister to kindly grace the swearing-in ceremony of our government this time."

He further said, "The ECI has officially announced the assembly election result, and the ECI has submitted the notification of the result to the Governor of Assam. I submitted my resignation letter as the Chief Minister of Assam to the Governor of Assam, and simultaneously, I requested him to dissolve the current Assam assembly. The Governor of Assam has accepted my resignation letter and suggestion of dissolving the current Assam assembly, and he directed the Assam ministry to continue as the caretaker council of ministers till the formation of a new government. I think that the new government will be formed soon. During this time, we will work as a caretaker government."

Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has reached out to the AIADMK for support. The TVK is just 10 seats short of forming a government.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to immediately arrest those involved in post-poll violence and vandalism in West Bengal, news agency PTI reported.
