Delhi-NCR weather: Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden change in weather on Wednesday as several parts of the region saw rainfall, dust storms, and hailstorm activity. In Delhi's Uttam Nagar, visuals showed heavy rain accompanied by hailstorm. Noida and Gurugram were also affected by strong winds and rain.

The sudden spell of rain and strong winds has brought a noticeable dip in temperature, bringing relief from the scorching heat across Delhi-NCR. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a yellow alert for the national capital. The weather department predicted a partly cloudy sky along with a spell of very light to light rain during the evening and night. Thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph were also forecast in parts of Delhi-NCR.

Why Is Delhi's Weather Changing?

According to IMD observations, Delhi’s weather has been changing rapidly due to active Western Disturbances bringing moisture from the Mediterranean region. This has led to sudden shifts from intense heatwaves, with temperatures crossing 43 degrees celsi, to thunderstorms, dust storms, and rainfall. A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect Northwest India from Friday, May 15, bringing more rain in northern states.
