Delhi Fire
The hotel owner has been identified as Lokesh Bajaj, and the property was reportedly being operated by three partners who also run several hotels and guest houses across Delhi. According to ANI report, citing officials, most of the victims were from Liberia, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Bangladesh, making it one of the worst recent fire tragedies in the city.
Doctors treating the injured said eight patients are currently on ventilator support and remain in critical condition. Max Healthcare Group Medical Director Dr Sandeep Budhiraja said most patients suffered from smoke inhalation, also known as asphyxiation injuries. He added that all patients had minor burns, except one who had burns over 25 per cent of his body, who was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital. Five patients are stable and are recovering from minor injuries.
Investigation Underway
Investigators are currently examining the ownership, operations, and fire safety compliance of the hotel. Officials said the building had permission for only six rooms under the Delhi government’s bed-and-breakfast policy but was allegedly operating 25 rooms, including illegal constructions in the basement. Police also said the hotel had only one entry and exit point, and its fire safety No Objection Certificate (NOC) is under scrutiny.
