In a major revelation, Ambala police have found that sensitive information was being sent to Pakistan through two CCTV cameras installed on National Highway 152-D. Both CCTV units were powered by solar energy systems, and one of them was also equipped with an active SIM card. Their discoveries have raised concern among security agencies.

The Sadar Police Station has registered a case, citing threats to the nation's unity, integrity, sovereignty, and security. An investigation has been initiated into the matter approximately 50 days after the initial discovery. The case had first come to light on February 26, and police suspected that these cameras might have been installed by a government department. However, after nearly a month and a half of investigation, no department claimed responsibility for installing these cameras.

Spy Camera On Highway

Earlier in March, solar-powered CCTV cameras equipped with SIM cards recovered from an electric pole in Malaur village. It was suspected that these cameras were used to leak sensitive information related to the Baknaur Air Force Station. Similarly, about eight days ago, the Special Cell of the Delhi Police busted a major espionage network operated by Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI. 11 individuals have been arrested by the police.

It was revealed that this gang had only installed the two cameras in Ambala. They were transmitting locations, photographs, and videos of military bases, railway stations, and other sensitive sites directly to Pakistan. The gang had also installed solar-powered cameras at Delhi Cantt, Ambala, and Sonipat railway stations. According to reports, live feeds from these cameras were being relayed to Pakistan. Delhi Police have arrested more than 26 accused individuals in connection with this case.

How Was It Discovered?

The case came to light after ASI Ravish Kumar reached National Highway 44 on February 26 to investigate a road accident case that had been registered on February 15. He noticed two cameras installed on the Highway 152 overbridge. He observed that these cameras appeared different from standard surveillance systems. The team then contacted the toll plaza management, whose Manager Vinod Kumar stated that these cameras did not belong to the toll plaza.

Following this, SHO Joginder of the Mohra Traffic Police Station was consulted. He also denied having any knowledge of such cameras. The suspicion grew further after Lalit, an official from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), too denied having any connection to these cameras. The police then engaged in investigations across various departments, including the Saini Majra Toll Plaza, its IT systems, surveillance, data management, technical support, and computer branches. However, no information was received.

After consultation with senior officials, the police then removed cameras from the site and deposited them at the Sadar Police Station in Ambala. During the investigation, a Vodafone SIM card accompanied by a solar panel was found in one camera, while the other camera contained no SIM card. Preliminary investigations suggest that these cameras may have been installed for covert surveillance or for anti-social or anti-national activities.
