The Kerala Story 2 – Goes Beyond sparked major legal and political controversy following its teaser and trailer, leading to a petition in the Kerala High Court challenging its certification by the Central Board of Film Certification. The film drew criticism from leaders like Pinarayi Vijayan and Shashi Tharoor over its themes, while others defended creative freedom.

Despite receiving a U/A certificate in India and an 18 rating from the British Board of Film Classification, debates over its content, potential communal impact and political influence intensified, even prompting the court to seek a screening of the film.
