Mandakini's links with Dawood Ibrahim
At the peak of her career, Mandakini was surrounded by controversy due to alleged links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. A photo of the two fueled widespread speculation. However, Dawood consistently denied the rumours, many filmmakers were hesitant to cast her. As mentioned in Dial D For Don by former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, the don allegedly influenced producers to offer her roles. This didn't work anywhere in favour of Mandakini, but it did destroy her film career.
