The teaser of Ramayana is out now and it has been receiving mixed reviews from netizens and critics alike. The teaser reopened an important question—can the film avoid the kind of backlash that Adipurush faced? When it comes to mythological adaptations, expectations of Indian audience have always been sky-high. When Adipurush released, it faced heavy backlash over its weak VFX, questionable dialogues, cartoonish characters and lack of authenticity.
The criticism went beyond cinematic flaws, highlighting a deeper emotional and cultural disconnect. As a result, Ramayana now carries the responsibility of restoring audience faith in large-scale mythological storytelling.
5 Major Criticisms Faced By Adipurush
Poor VFX Quality
One of the biggest complaints was the film’s underwhelming visual effects. Viewers found several scenes unrealistic and cartoonish, which broke immersion in a story that demanded grandeur and realism.
Questionable Character Portrayals
The depiction of Lord Rama, played by Prabhas, received a lot of backlash. Prabhas' look in Adipurush sparked meme buzz online. On the other hand, Saif Ali Khan's portrayal of Raavan garnered immense hate. Netizens even compared his look with Game Of Thrones' John Snow.

Emotional Depth
Despite its scale, Adipurush struggled to create an emotional connection with audiences. The characters lacked depth, making it difficult for viewers to stay invested in the narrative.
CGI Over Substance
While the film aimed for a grand visual spectacle, many felt it focused too much on CGI and not enough on storytelling, screenplay, and character development.
Ramayana Teaser
The teaser of Ramayana captures the transition of Rama from a regal prince adorned in gold to a warrior. A pivotal scene depicts Ranbir Kapoor as Rama effortlessly lifting and stringing the divine Pinaka bow of Lord Shiva, a feat that had defeated all other kings. A major emotional beat shows a sequence where Rama, now in simple ascetic attire, touches the feet of King Dasharatha (Arun Govil) before heading into a 14-year exile with Sita and Lakshman.
Can Ramayana succeed where Adipurush failed?
Ramayana has a clear advantage—it can learn from the mistakes of Adipurush. Early glimpses suggest a stronger focus on visual detailing and storytelling, but the real test lies ahead.
