Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 1 is slated for a Diwali 2026 theatrical release, but its teaser has received mixed reactions. While some praised its scale and grandeur, others criticised the VFX and expressed reservations about Ranbir Kapoor being cast as Lord Rama. Now, Sunil Lahri, best known for playing Lakshman in Ramayan, has also weighed in with his opinion.

In a conversation with DNA, Sunil Lahri said, "Ranbir looks OK, but the innocence is a little less. The patience, calm, and innocence Arun (Govil) had are missing here. But I'm sure he'll justify the role with his acting. He looks a little harsh; he suits more for Laxmana or Bharat. For such a role, it's always better to cast a fresh face. A new actor, with no image or controversy, is always an ideal match."

Earlier, Dipika Chikhlia also shared an honest review for Ramayana. She said in a conversation with India Today, "I watched the teaser and it's very grand. Bahut rich lag raha hai. Unhone bahut achhe se banaya hai. So now I'm awaiting the film and it's looking very beautiful, there's no doubt about it."

About the movie: Ramayana: Part 1 features a stellar ensemble with Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Sunny Deol as Hanuman and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman, with music by Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman. The film follows Rama’s journey leading to a grand cosmic conflict, with Part 1 releasing globally on Diwali 2026 and Part 2 on Diwali 2027.

The teaser of Ramayana captures the transition of Rama from a regal prince adorned in gold to a warrior. A pivotal scene depicts Ranbir Kapoor as Rama effortlessly lifting and stringing the divine Pinaka bow of Lord Shiva, a feat that had defeated all other kings. A major emotional beat shows a sequence where Rama, now in simple ascetic attire, touches the feet of King Dasharatha (Arun Govil) before heading into a 14-year exile with Sita and Lakshman.
