Nora Fatehi Faces Fatwa And NCW Summons Over Sarke Chunar Teri Song

Nora Fatehi has come under criticism over her song Sarke Chunar Teri, with the Darul Ifta issuing a fatwa against her appearance in the video. As reported by ANI, the body termed the track “obscene” and objected to its dance moves and content. Cleric Maulana Chaudhary Ifraheem Hussain also urged a boycott and called on filmmakers to present content responsibly.

This comes shortly after the National Commission for Women issued summons to Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt over the controversy. Taking suo motu cognisance, the Commission noted that the song’s content appears prima facie sexually suggestive, objectionable, and potentially in violation of laws such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, as reported by IANS. The Commission has also summoned lyricist Raqueeb Alam, producer Venkat K Narayana, and director Kiran Kumar. All have been asked to appear before the panel on March 24 at 12:30 PM, with a warning of consequences in case of non-compliance.

Earlier, the National Human Rights Commission also issued a notice over alleged objectionable lyrics in the song. Meanwhile, advocate Vineet Jindal filed a complaint with the Delhi Police cyber cell, seeking action against the makers, claiming the track contains obscene content and is easily accessible on digital platforms.

Nora Fatehi apologises amid Sarke Chunar Teri controversy

Nora Fatehi has responded to the controversy around Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from KD: The Devil, clarifying in a video message that she was not involved in the Hindi version of the song while addressing the criticism.

Nora said in the video, "I shot this song three years ago in Kannada. When I shot this song, I said yes to it because it was part of a big film and also alongside Sanjay Dutt, who would say no to it. It was a remake of what I thought was 'Nayak Nahi Khalnayak Hoon Main'." "When they translated this song, nothing seemed inappropriate or vulgar to me, but I do not understand Kannada, so I rely on whatever they say to me. Whatever they have done right now, dubbing it in Hindi and the lyrics, they did not take any permission or approval from me. I had no idea about it," she further added.
