What Didn't Work?

  • The horror elements relied on sound design at several places. In fact, they were unable to create a persistent sense of fear. In several scenes, the VFX appeared shoddy and fake, which lowered the overall impact. There were more yawns than laughs since the dialogues were mediocre, and many of the comic punches felt stale.
  • The casting of 49-year-old Jisshu Sengupta as the father of 58-year-old Akshay Kumar inadvertently makes more people laugh than the writing.
  • Actors like Mithila Palkar, Jisshu Sengupta, and Tabu were underutilised, who were given unfinished parts.

What Did Netizens Say?

A user said, "Watching Bhoot Bangla—halfway through, and it already feels like a masterclass in how not to make a horror-comedy. Even Akshay Kumar’s presence can’t salvage a script that confuses noise for humour and chaos for storytelling."

Another user wrote, "#BhoothBangla is a total disaster. Outdated comedy, zero horror, and a slow screenplay make it a tiring watch. Even Akshay looks disinterested. Film feels like a lazy cash grab with no effort in writing or direction."

A third user said, "The 1st half of #BhoothBangla might have worked with a younger Akshay Kumar. The 2nd half is a complete train wreck of Tomb Raider meets Batman visuals made by kids with access to early 2000s CGI."

A fourth user said, "1 out of 5 stars… It feels like Bhoot Bangla is a fake copy of Bhool Bhulaiyaa. A very poor film of Akshay Kumar with a predictable plot, loose screenplay, which is made by picking bits and pieces from Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Khatta Meetha, and Bhagam Bhaag—a mixed mess that has neither fun nor flavour with an absurd climax. It’s a failed attempt to present old, worn-out dialogues in new packaging."

Final Verdict

There is nothing new in the storyline of Bhooth Bangla; it feels like a rehashed script from decades before. A good horror comedy should either make you laugh aloud or frighten you, but this one's eerie parts are utterly unimpressive. They don't feel exciting; they just drag on. The second half's humour is clumsy and forced. The climax is extremely predictable and ends drably, which exacerbates the situation.

Honestly, for me, Bhooth Bhulaiyaa was far better than Bhooth Bangla. The movie ended up being an underwhelming watch despite a strong ensemble.
