Not only for the ARMYs, it was a hard time for HYBE and the entire South Korea when the world-famous Kpop boyband BTS enlisted in military. However, the members and their fans stayed apart in the hope of reuniting soon and when they did it was nothing less than a celebration. Seoul transformed into a purpleland in order to welcome V, Jungkook, Jimin, Jhope, Jin, RM and Suga, but now everyone's eyes were on their comeback as a group. Though the septet were tired from their mandatory military services, Jungkook served as an inspiration to the fellow BTS members. Let us look at a journey featuring BTS' return in a newly released Netflix documentary, titled - BTS: The Return.

BTS: The Return Review

The Netflix documentary BTS: The Return follows BTS—RM, Jin, Suga, Jhope, Jimin, V and Jungkook—as they usher in their 2.0 era with the album ARIRANG. Blending nostalgia with their journey from debut to hiatus and comeback, the film captures their growth as artists and individuals.

Is BTS: The Return Work The Hype?

If you are a true BTS fan, this Netflix documentary is a must-watch. It takes you through an emotional journey from BTS' military enlistment to their most-awaited return on stage.

As shown in the documentary, BTS members gathered in Los Angeles in summer 2025 for about two months following their military discharge to work on new music. They lived together to record their upcoming album, Arirang, marking their first collective stay since 2019. This was a temporary work project, not a permanent move.

Reflecting on their perception of time in LA, RM said, "In old Greece, there were two ways of thinking about time. One is chronos, and one is kairos. In the military... time just passed by, that was chronos, but here in LA, time with the members, my second family, this feels like kairos." "Moving into a fresh space allows you to redesign everything from scratch," said V aka Kim Taehyung.

Throughout the BTS: The Return documentary, Jimin emerged as one of the most talked-about voices, drawing attention with his candid and introspective remarks. Opening up about the creative process behind ARIRANG, Jimin revealed that he initially struggled to accept SWIM as the album’s title track. "I've spent three hours discussing the song with my friends, and they preferred Hooligan and Normal. But for SWIM... When people think of BTS, they anticipate intricate choreography and dancing. I want to persuade people that it's beneficial for us to explore new avenues. If we desire change, now is the time. My friend understands, but he’s hesitant to embrace it," said Jimin.
