Diljit Dosanjh No Longer Indian? Punjabi Singer-Actor A US Citizen Now: Report

Diljit Dosanjh has been travelling with a US passport since 2022, according to a recent report. The Punjabi singer-actor recently turned down requests to enter Punjabi politics. If the reports are to be believed, he no longer held his Indian citizenship that year and obtained US citizenship.

Diljit Dosanjh Not An Indian Citizen Anymore?

Diljit Dosanjh entered India on an e-visa in September 2022, according to a report by The Indian Express, indicating that he also does not have an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card. It further stated that he recently travelled to India using his US passport.

Diljit Dosanjh had previously received a passport from Zambia, but his most recent Indian passport was issued in Mumbai in 2018, according to the same report.

Diljit Dosanjh Entering Politics?

Jaago Punjab Manch, which is a group made up of professionals, retired bureaucrats, and Army personnel, reportedly publicly urged Diljit Dosanjh to enter politics, calling him the kind of leader a 'cash-strapped, drug-affected' Punjab needs. The Punjabi singer, however, vehemently disagreed with the idea. He wrote on X, "Kadey v Nhi… Mera Kam Entertainment Karna. Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much".

But if Diljit Dosanjh were to change his mind in the future and formally enter Indian politics, he would have to obtain Indian citizenship. The report by the publication stated that a foreign national wishing to obtain Indian citizenship must meet residency requirements, such as having lived in India for a total of 12 years before applying, citing Section 6 of the Indian Citizenship Act.
