Is Dawood Ibrahim dead or alive? Dhurandhar 2 has revived the debate on the whereabouts of the mastermind of the tragic 1993 Mumbai serial bombings as well as other terror attacks in India. Dawood Ibrahim’s escape from India was no secret. Often referred to as “Bade Sahab” in popular culture, he is believed to have carefully planned his exit, leaving with financial resources, strong connections and alleged backing from Pakistan. According to several media reports, by the early 1980s, he had openly settled in Dubai, reportedly living in luxury and even hosting Bollywood personalities, while enjoying India-Pakistan cricket matches in Sharjah. Despite awareness of his presence, authorities in Dubai largely turned a blind eye.

Is Dawood Ibrahim alive?

However, after the 1993 Bombay bombings, which killed hundreds and injured thousands, Ibrahim is said to have shifted base to Karachi, Pakistan—a place many Indian authorities claim has long served as a safe haven for wanted terrorists. Since then, he is believed to have remained there.

The question of whether Dawood Ibrahim is still alive continues to spark debate. While Islamabad has repeatedly denied his presence, international records suggest otherwise. In August 2020, under pressure from the Financial Action Task Force, Pakistan listed him among individuals sanctioned under the United Nations Security Council. His known Karachi addresses and aliases remain documented, with validations continuing as recently as 2025.

Has Dawood Ibrahim shifted his base to Karachi?

The United Nations Security Council sanctions list includes Karachi addresses linked to Dawood Ibrahim, reinforcing these claims. Pakistan’s own 2020 sanctions notification (reported widely by outlets like NDTV, India Today, etc.) also listed Karachi-based addresses, though it later denied this meant confirmation.

Globally, Ibrahim has been linked to major terror networks, including associations with Al-Qaeda and Lashkar-e-Taiba, alongside involvement in drug trafficking. In 2003, the United States officially designated him a global terrorist, further cementing his status as one of the world’s most-wanted figures.
