Alleged conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar has been granted bail by a Delhi court in connection with a Rs 200 crore extortion-linked money laundering case. The decision comes after the court observed concerns over prolonged detention without proper justification. While granting relief, the court also imposed strict conditions to ensure compliance with the ongoing investigation and legal process.

The Delhi Court granted bail to Sukesh Chandrashekhar on April 7. According to the order, keeping an accused person in prison for an extended period without having any legitimate cause is against the accused person's fundamental right to freedom of life and a speedy trial. It further ordered that he should be released by giving bail bonds of Rs. 5 lakh each. Sukesh was arrested by the Delhi Police on August 7, 2021.

Key Bail Conditions Imposed

The court has laid down specific rules that Sukesh must follow after his release. These conditions are aimed at preventing any interference with the case proceedings.

*He must not contact or influence any witnesses related to the case.

*He is required to share his residential address and mobile number with the investigating officer.

*His passport must be deposited with the court authorities.

*He cannot leave the country without prior court permission.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s Money Laundering Case Background

This case is related to an alleged Rs 200 crore extortion racket and the laundering of that money. Sukesh Chandrashekhar, his wife Leena Maria Paul, and several others have also been charged under the organised crime law (MCOCA).

According to the police, Sukesh acted as a middleman for T. T. V. Dhinakaran. He is accused of attempting to bribe an official of the Election Commission of India to secure an election symbol. During the investigation, ₹1.3 crore in cash was also recovered in connection with the case.

Connection with Jacqueline Fernandez

Sukesh Chandrashekhar has also been in the news due to his alleged links with Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez. Reports claimed that he was in contact with her and even sent expensive gifts. What caught attention was that Sukesh continued to write love letters to Jacqueline even while being lodged in jail. These letters often made headlines, adding a personal angle to the high-profile case.
