Karan Johar has criticised Bollywood's growing dependence on marketing and public relations (PR). He was answering a question from the audience that focused on the recent marketing strategies used by Janhvi Kapoor for Param Sundari and Shanaya Kapoor for Tu Yaa Main, respectively. The director denounced this tendency, claiming it diminishes an actor's skill and diligence.
Karan Johar slammed the overuse of sponsored publicity in response to an audience question mentioning actors like Janhvi Kapoor and Shanaya Kapoor. The filmmaker urged artists to prioritise their creativity over manufactured perception and voiced concerns about what he called "method marketing."
Karan Johar said, "I think Bollywood should stop doing PR. It will be much better. They should let their achievement speak for itself because, unfortunately, all of the PR is now paid PR. If you want to say 'You are looking gorgeous', you just have to pay. If you want to say that you are the best actor on planet Earth, you have to pay."

Karan Johar added. "So I think we are on overdrive mode when it comes to PR. So whether they are doing method marketing or not is secondary. They should stop marketing themselves and let their work speak for themselves. I don't mean the people you are talking about I mean everyone in general. Because I think PR's becoming into overdrive mode. There's a certain way of doing it. Publicity, marketing- these are very important work categories and this should be treated in that specific way."
Karan Johar just went completely unfiltered in a recent interview with no sugarcoating, no diplomacy. Karan Johar also shared his perplexity about how paid public relations affects audience perception. "Now everything is available at a price and that is something that could be deeply upsetting because then you really can't gauge what's connecting and what's now. Are people liking it or are paid to like it? I don't know, I can't tell half the time. It's confusing me because even I am sometimes paying for it."
On the work front, Karan Johar also talked about his popular chat show Koffee With Karan. According to the director, Season 9 will probably debut around Diwali in 2026. Additionally, he disclosed that he is creating a web series based on his movie Kabhi Alvidaa Naa Kehna. It starred Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Abhishek Bachchan and Preity Zinta in the lead roles.
