Maharashtra Files vs The Kashmir Files, Bengal Files And Kerala Files
Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files was based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the 1990s. The filmmaker later expanded the 'Files' universe with The Bengal Files, a Hindi political drama centred around the Direct Action Day and Noakhali riots.
Similarly, The Kerala Story, backed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, revolved around women allegedly being radicalised and recruited into terror groups. The movie triggered nationwide discussions, protests and legal scrutiny after being promoted as a story inspired by a true event.
The tone, political context, and social criticism of the Maharashtra Files trailer have already put it in the same discourse as these hard-hitting movies. The Marathi movie, which is directed by Sanjivkumar Rathod, will hit theatres on May 29, 2026.
