Toy Story 5 Early Reviews: Toy Story 5 sees the toys return, but this time it's Toy meets Tech. When Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and the rest of the gang encounter Lilypad, a brand-new tablet device that has her own disruptive ideas about what is best for their child, Bonnie, their jobs are put to the test. According to early reviews, it is 'a perfect blend of humour, heart, and that signature Pixar magic' ahead of its release.

Toy Story 5 Early Reviews

Toy Story 5 is an emotional comeback for Pixar Animation Studios and serves as a reminder of why the Toy Story franchise is still among the best movie series ever produced, according to movie critic Scott Menzel, who gave Toy Story a positive review.

"Emotional, hilarious, and genuinely moving, Toy Story 5 may very well end up being one of the best films of 2026," read a part of the review on X (previously Twitter).

 

 

Meredith Loftus, editor of Collider, repeated the compliments, adding that it touched her in unexpected ways. "Toy Story 5 hit me in places I was unprepared for! Exploring the divide between technology and toys through Jessie results in a deeply profound, moving story that had me in a puddle of tears. I put it up there with Toy Story 2 & 3. It’s that excellent."

Toy Story 5 Storyline

Disney and Pixar's blockbuster Toy Story 5 was announced after four successful chapters, but one question remained on every fan's mind - Where does the story go here? For director and writer Andrew Stanton, he found his answer not in Woody, not in Buzz, but in the character the franchise has quietly been building toward for 25 years.

"That was the only reason I wanted to do it. I wanted to write whatever I wanted Toy Story 5 to be and see where I wanted to explore. And right away, I was like, I want to explore Jessie. I want to put her in the main driver's seat," said Andrew Stanton in a recent interview.

Toy Story 5 co-director and co-writer McKenna Harris wholeheartedly shares. "I think a lot of us felt it was kind of overdue. Jessie is just a great character, and she deserves the spotlight. It's why she got the badge in Four," she said.

The movie producer Lindsey Collins pointed to something the franchise has quietly been sitting on for years. "She has more backstory than any of them. We know the most about her of any of the characters, including Buzz and Woody. She has her own past in a way no other character does, and so it felt like it's just sitting there."

Toy Story 2 introduced Jessie, a toy that understands what it's like to be abandoned through one of the most heartbreaking scenes in animated films. She has always been the most complex character in the trilogy. Disney and Pixar are finally putting that story front and centre in Toy Story 5.

Toy Story 5 releases exclusively in theatres in India on 19th June 2026 in English and Hindi.
