Punjab Kings (PBKS) speedster Arshdeep Singh has landed in controversy again because of his social media after a video featuring Tilak Varma has gone viral ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Arshdeep Singh's Clip with Tilak Varma
The Punjab Kings pacer, who is known for his fun and candid online content, shared a Snapchat video where he was joking around with Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Varma. In the clip, Arshdeep referred to Tilak as “andhere,” a Hindi word often used for someone with a dark complexion. He then jokingly asked Tilak to apply sunscreen.

One day this kind of behaviour on social media is going to put him in a really tough spot. Yuzi Chahal is the perfect example of how quickly things can backfire. 😬 pic.twitter.com/FxB4EADF4E
Arshdeep also pointed at Tilak’s teammate Naman Dhir and called him the real “noor” from Punjab, with “noor” meaning light or brightness. As Naman explained the joke to Tilak, the batter replied that he already uses sunscreen.

Even though the conversation looked like friendly banter between teammates, many social media users were unhappy with Arshdeep’s remarks and felt the comments had racist undertones.
The viral video has once again sparked discussions around how cricketers use social media and where the line should be drawn when it comes to jokes involving public figures.
BCCI's guidelines for players
Earlier this IPL season, reports claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India had shared fresh guidelines with players, support staff, and team officials regarding behaviour on social media and off the field.
The advisory reportedly included rules related to guest access in team hotels, smoking and vaping, accreditation cards, and anti-corruption protocols.
Arshdeep has become one of the most popular cricketers on social media, regularly posting vlogs, reels, and behind-the-scenes videos for his fans. He currently has more than six million followers on Instagram.
