The BCCI has chosen not to reveal its plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup, especially regarding the futures of senior stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Ever since India won the 2025 Champions Trophy, there has been plenty of discussion about whether Kohli and Rohit will continue playing long enough to feature in the next 50-over World Cup. Both players have publicly expressed their desire to remain part of India’s ODI setup and target the 2027 tournament.

Will Rohit-Virat Feature in ODI World Cup 2027?

However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has made it clear that any discussions related to team planning and player futures are being handled internally.

“We have a very well-knit team and a lot of experts. All stakeholders are taken on board,” Saikia said. “Whatever decisions that are made involve the cricket committee, the selectors and all other stakeholders, including the support staff, the head coach and the players concerned. There are regular conversations taking place. For that reason, we do not need any special session of interaction. This is an ongoing process.”

Questions around Kohli and Rohit’s place in India’s long-term plans continue to attract attention. While both batting greats have repeatedly stated that they are aiming to play the 2027 World Cup, neither chief selector Ajit Agarkar nor head coach Gautam Gambhir has given any guarantees about the squad that will eventually travel to the tournament.

Saikia also stressed that such matters are discussed within the board and are not meant to be shared publicly.

“I do not think I should disclose anything before the media or the public because these are strategic discussions. I am not authorised to speak about them before the media,” he said. “Secondly, these are matters that should remain within the boardroom.”

Notably, Rohit is currently featuring in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, and Virat is on the road to recovery from a hamstring injury he sustained during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
