Former India wicketkeeper-batter Parthiv Patel believes the Indian team management should clearly explain to teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi why he is not part of the playing XI and encourage him to stay patient as he waits for his international debut.

The 15-year-old earned his maiden India call-up for the T20I series against Ireland and England after an outstanding IPL 2026 season. However, he is yet to get a game, having remained on the bench in a two-match series against Ireland and the opening T20I against England in Durham, which was washed out after the first innings.

Speaking on JioStar, Patel said he expects Sooryavanshi to get his chance during the ongoing England series. At the same time, he stressed that honest communication from the coaching staff is very important.

“I feel that at some point in this series, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will definitely get an opportunity. But at this point in time, communication is something which is very important. When you are part of a coaching staff, you have to make sure that you are giving away the right signals to a batter,” Patel said.

Patel said the team management should be open with the youngster even if he is not going to play immediately. He added that players of Sooryavanshi’s age need proper guidance and reassurance.

“Even if you are not going to make him play, you have to tell him that fact. He’s a 15-year-old kid. You have to speak to him carefully. You have to teach him a little patience. Because when you are playing for India, when you are picked for India, there are a lot of other players as well who have done really well,” he said.

The former India cricketer also backed the current top-order batters, saying they have earned their places through consistent performances.

“Talking about Sanju Samson. He was the Player of the Series in the World Cup. You have Ishan Kishan, who is batting at No. 3 and is the No. 1 ICC-ranked player. No. 2 is Abhishek Sharma. At this point in time, there is no place, and you have to communicate that really well to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi,” Patel added.

India and England will face each other in the second T20I in Manchester on Saturday.
