Shubman Gill is leading India in the three-match ODI series against the West Indies. On Sunday (September 27), during the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram, Gill added another major achievement to his name.
Gill became only the fourth Indian captain after Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag and Virat Kohli to score an ODI century against the West Indies.
Kohli scored seven centuries in 18 ODIs against the West Indies as India’s captain. Dravid and Sehwag, meanwhile, scored one century each in 16 and four matches respectively.

Gill Scores Century In First ODI As Captain vs West Indies
Gill, who took over as India’s ODI captain in October 2025, was playing his first ODI as captain against the West Indies.
He reached his century in just 96 balls, completing the milestone with a four off the first ball of the 31st over during India’s 296-run chase.
His innings included 12 fours and one six, while the century was also his 10th in ODI cricket.
Gill Breaks Dhawan’s Record
Gill’s century also helped him set a new Indian record for the fastest player to reach 10 ODI hundreds.
Shikhar Dhawan previously held the record after reaching 10 centuries in 77 innings. Virat Kohli had achieved the same milestone in 80 innings. Gill has now gone past both Dhawan and Kohli to become the fastest Indian batter to score 10 ODI centuries.
Gill Joins Dravid And Kohli
The century also gave Gill another special record as an India captain. He became only the third Indian captain after Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli to score a century in both Tests and ODIs against the West Indies.
