Harmanpreet Kaur-led India have suffered a major setback in the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup, with off-spinner Shreyanka Patil being ruled out of the tournament due to an ankle injury. Uncapped leg-spinner Prema Rawat has been named as her replacement.
When did Shreyanka Patil got injured?
Patil picked up the injury during India’s dominant 95-run win over the Netherlands on Wednesday. The incident happened in the final over of the Powerplay when she twisted her ankle while trying to stop a ball in the field.

The 23-year-old immediately looked in pain and grabbed her right leg. The team physio rushed onto the ground to assess the injury. Patil was unable to put any weight on her ankle and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher after bowling just one ball.
Who will replace Shreyanka Patil?
The ICC confirmed that Rawat has been approved as Patil’s replacement in India’s World Cup squad.
For Rawat, it is a dream moment as she receives her first call-up to the senior Indian team. The 24-year-old has previously played six matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru across two Women’s Premier League seasons.
Who is Prema Rawat?
She was also part of the India A squad set to tour England for a six-match white-ball series starting in Northampton on Saturday. Rawat recently impressed in the Rising Stars Women’s Asia Cup, where she picked up eight wickets at an economy rate of 4.27 and played a key role in helping India A lift the title.
The latest injury is another tough blow for Patil, who has endured a difficult run with fitness issues over the past few years. A broken finger forced her to miss the 2024 T20 World Cup. Since then, she has also dealt with shin splints in both legs and a stress reaction in her wrist.
