Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to take stricter steps after the national team’s poor performances across all formats. Following a disappointing run against Bangladesh, the board is now looking to make the upcoming central contracts heavily performance-based.
The recent 104-run loss against Bangladesh in the first Test at Mirpur has reportedly increased concerns within the PCB. Even officials who had strongly supported the players are now unhappy with the team’s decline.
PCB to review the terms and conditions of the new central contracts
According to sources quoted by News18, the PCB will review the terms and conditions of the new central contracts, which are expected to come into effect from July 1.
“The board is discussing different ways to make the central contracts more performance-oriented, meaning introducing a financial system where players are judged and paid on their performances series to series and in tournaments," the source said.

The source added that officials preparing the contracts are also consulting the legal department to make sure any new clauses do not violate the rights of players as employees of the board.
At the same time, there is very little possibility of the top Category A being brought back in the new contracts after it was removed from the current list, which expires on June 30.
“Number of players who are contracted can expect to find themselves dropped from the new list after a decline in performances of the national team in all formats," the source added.
PCB to organise a long training and fitness camp in June
The board has also decided to organise a long training and fitness camp after the home series against Australia in June. The camp will continue until the team leaves for the West Indies tour in late July.

With several Test matches scheduled in the coming months, the PCB is also considering rewarding red-ball players with better financial benefits to encourage focus on the longer format.
Why Pakistan Players not working hard enough on their skills or fitness?
According to the source, the board feels some players have become too comfortable in their positions and are not working hard enough on their skills or fitness.
“The lure of the T20 leagues is seen as one reason for players developing a comfort zone for themselves which is why the new contracts might also see some telling conditions for players to play in foreign leagues," he added.
