Glenn Phillips will have a big opportunity to create history when New Zealand take on India in the fifth and final T20I on Sunday at Seddon Park in Hamilton.
Phillips has been in excellent form throughout the series. He made headlines in the fourth T20I on Friday (October 30), smashing 107 runs off just 49 balls. With that knock, he took his tally to 276 runs in the ongoing five-match series.
The New Zealand batter is now just 56 runs away from breaking the record for the most runs scored in a bilateral T20I series.

Glenn Phillips closing in on Phil Salt’s T20I record
The record currently belongs to England’s Phil Salt, who scored 331 runs in five T20Is against the West Indies in December 2023. Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan occupies the second spot with 316 runs from six matches against England in 2022.
Phillips is currently 13th on the all-time list with 276 runs. A big knock in the final match could see him move to the top and become the first New Zealand batter to cross the 300-run mark in a bilateral T20I series.

Glenn Phillips can break Mark Chapman’s New Zealand record
Phillips is also closing in on a major record among New Zealand batters. Mark Chapman currently holds the record for the most runs by a New Zealand player in a bilateral T20I series.
Chapman scored 290 runs in five matches against Pakistan in 2023. Phillips needs just 15 more runs in the final T20I to go past that tally and take the record for himself.

Glenn Phillips eyes another T20I milestone
Phillips already holds the record for scoring the most runs in a T20I bilateral series against India. However, he could add another achievement to his name in Hamilton.
If he scores a half-century in the fifth T20I, Phillips will become only the third player to register four 50-plus scores in a single T20I bilateral series.
Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan and Japan’s Sabaorish Ravichandran are the only two players to have achieved this milestone so far. Phillips will be hoping to join them when New Zealand take the field on Sunday.
