Punjab Kings (PBKS) have fuelled speculation around Hardik Pandya’s possible move from Mumbai Indians ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027.

The Punjab-based franchise shared a cryptic post on social media, hinting at the arrival of a new player without revealing his identity.

“Dekho… kaun aane wala hai 👀🔥

Punjab di shaan, nava tufaan! ❤️💙

Hardik Shubkamnaye Iss Diwali 🪔,” PBKS wrote on X, alongside an image in which the face of the player was kept hidden.

The timing of the post has caught the attention of cricket fans, particularly amid reports that Hardik could leave Mumbai Indians and join the Punjab-based franchise for the next season. While the post has added to the buzz, it does not amount to an official confirmation of the all-rounder’s move.

Hardik Pandya-PBKS Trade Talks Reach Advanced Stage

Reports suggest that discussions between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have reached an advanced stage, with the senior management of both franchises believed to have agreed on a possible player exchange. The paperwork is reportedly expected to be completed with the IPL authorities, with an official announcement potentially coming later this week.

The proposed deal could be among the biggest moves ahead of IPL 2027, especially with the November 17 retention deadline approaching.

Hardik, who led Mumbai Indians in the previous edition, has been linked with a move to Punjab after three seasons as the franchise’s captain. The all-rounder could bring valuable experience to a PBKS side that is looking to strengthen its squad.

Why Are Punjab Kings Interested In Hardik Pandya?

The Punjab Kings, under head coach Ricky Ponting, are understood to be keen on adding an experienced all-rounder to their squad. Hardik’s all-round ability makes him a good option for the franchise.

Interestingly, reports suggest that the initial approach came from a senior Mumbai Indians official, who explored the possibility of trading the all-rounder. Punjab were interested in signing Hardik, but discussions reportedly moved towards Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod as potential players in the deal.

Arshdeep’s possible departure would be a major call for PBKS, given his importance to their pace attack over the last few seasons.

Arshdeep Singh Trade Could Trigger Another PBKS Move

If Arshdeep moves to Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings could explore further changes to their squad. Reports suggest the franchise is considering approaching Lucknow Super Giants for a possible trade involving left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan and Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

With Hardik potentially coming into the side, Stoinis could have a reduced role in Punjab’s plans. Mohsin, meanwhile, is reportedly rated highly by the PBKS management, although his fitness remains a key consideration.

Arshdeep was released by Punjab ahead of the 2025 mega auction but was brought back through the Right to Match (RTM) card. Sunrisers Hyderabad pushed his bid from ₹15.75 crore to ₹18 crore, but PBKS chose to match the offer and retain the left-arm pacer.

Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians Journey

Hardik returned to Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2024 season through an all-cash trade from Gujarat Titans. He had enjoyed a successful two-year stint with Gujarat, leading the franchise to the IPL title in its debut season in 2022 before taking it to the final in 2023.

However, his second stint with Mumbai has not gone as planned. Despite being handed the captaincy, MI have struggled for consistency and finished near the bottom of the points table twice during his three seasons as skipper.

With the IPL 2027 retention deadline approaching, Hardik’s future has become one of the biggest talking points ahead of the new season. PBKS’s latest social media post has only added to the speculation, although fans will have to wait for an official announcement to know whether the all-rounder is indeed heading to Punjab.
