Mitchell Marsh played a brilliant knock of 90 runs off just 38 balls to help Lucknow Super Giants beat Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets in an IPL match on Friday.
CSK's batting
CSK, after being put in to bat, scored a strong total of 187 for 5 in 20 overs. Young batter Kartik Sharma was the main contributor with a calm and controlled 71 runs off 42 balls. Shivam Dube also played a quick cameo at the end, scoring an unbeaten 32 off just 16 balls to push CSK to a competitive score.
LSG's Chase
LSG started their chase in an explosive way. Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis took control right from the beginning and added 135 runs for the first wicket. Marsh was in unstoppable form, hitting the ball cleanly all around the ground. Inglis supported him well with a fast 36 off 31 balls.
CSK bowlers struggled to find control on a pitch that had something in it for bowlers who bowled a hard length. Instead, they often bowled too full or too short, and Marsh made them pay heavily.
Marsh reached his fifty in just 21 balls and continued to attack without slowing down. He hit boundaries and sixes with ease, especially punishing the pacers in the powerplay. LSG finished the first six overs at a strong 86 without loss.
The opening partnership finally broke when Inglis got out after mistiming a shot. Soon after, Marsh also lost his wicket in unlucky fashion when a throw deflected and hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end.
Even after Marsh’s dismissal, LSG remained in control. Nicholas Pooran finished the job with an unbeaten 32 off 17 balls. Mukul Choudhary also stayed not out on 13 off 10 balls as LSG chased the target comfortably in 16.4 overs.
Earlier in the match, CSK had some positive moments through Kartik Sharma, who played a mature innings and held the innings together after early wickets. Dewald Brevis also added 25 runs and helped build a 70-run partnership with Kartik.
For LSG, left-arm pacer Akash Singh was the standout bowler. He took 3 wickets for just 26 runs and troubled CSK’s top order with his tight line and hard lengths. He dismissed key players, including Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad, giving LSG early control of the match.
