Virat Kohli’s journey with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) looks far from over. After finally ending their long wait for an Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2025, RCB successfully defended their crown in 2026, with Kohli once again playing a key role in the team’s success.
Will Virat Kohli retire after IPL 2027?
Even though the franchise is set to be acquired by new owners, Kohli’s bond with RCB is expected to remain strong for years to come.
“RCB and Virat are different sides of the same coin,” RCB Ceo Rajesh Menon said in an interaction with CNBC TV18. “He has been the constant factor for RCB throughout. We have not seen him not being part of RCB even if he moves out of his cricketing career. We have to figure out.

“That said, next three to four years, I’m sure he’ll be playing…for at least four years. He is fit; the hunger never dies. You saw him this IPL season bring on the energy, runs, attitude….everything was there. Three to four years, absolutely no problem,” Menon added.
There is still one season left in the current IPL mega auction cycle before teams rebuild their squads in 2028. Kohli continues to be the biggest face of the franchise, both on and off the field. He was RCB’s leading run-scorer in their title-winning campaigns in 2025 and 2026, scoring more than 600 runs in both seasons.
The former India captain also delivered when it mattered the most in the IPL 2026 final. He remained unbeaten on 75 and guided RCB to a dominant victory over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His performance earned him the Player of the Final award.
Speaking after the title triumph, Kohli said:
“I just give my heart and soul out there on the field, whether I’m fielding or batting, because it’s going to finish one day. And I want to make the most of every day that I’m on the field and just enjoy myself and have a lot of fun and look forward to a pressure situation, look forward to scenarios where I’m feeling a bit of heat. And then I challenge myself to say, you know what, just go for it. And when you cross the line, it makes you a better player.
Kohli suffered a hamstring injury during the final, which ruled him out of India’s ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. However, the veteran batter, who will soon turn 38, remains determined to continue playing at the highest level and has already made it clear that he is targeting the 2027 ODI World Cup. Notably, Kohli will now be seen featuring in the three-match ODI series against England.
