India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. Team India are scheduled to play a one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

Why Bumrah will miss ODI series against Afghanistan?

According to a PTI report dated May 17, Bumrah may either take part in the lone Test in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10, or he could be rested for the entire series, depending on his workload and fitness.

The report also suggests that if the BCCI medical team is satisfied with his workload after IPL 2026, he may be considered for the Test match. However, there is very little chance of him playing the ODI series due to workload management.

“If the medical team approves Bumrah’s workload is under permissible limits, he might play the Test match against Afghanistan. But there is no chance of him playing the ODI series. If there is the slightest issue with his workload, he will be rested for the full series," PTI quoted a source

Bumrah's ODI career

Bumrah has played 89 ODIs so far and taken 149 wickets. His last appearance in the format came during the 2023 ODI World Cup final against Australia in Ahmedabad, where he picked up two wickets, but India ended up on the losing side. He was initially named in India’s squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, but had to miss out later due to fitness concerns.
