India to play Test on Australian soil after nine years
This tour is special because it marks India's return to Sri Lanka for a Test series after nine years. The last time India played a Test series there was in 2017 under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. Since then, the two sides have met only once in the longest format, with India hosting Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series in March 2022.
India vs Sri Lanka Test record
India have had the better record in Test cricket whenever these two teams have faced each other. They have won 22 of the 46 Tests played between the two countries, while Sri Lanka have claimed seven victories. The other 17 matches ended in draws.
India have also performed well in Sri Lanka. Out of 24 Tests played there, India have won nine and Sri Lanka have won seven. Eight matches have finished in draws.
Sri Lanka head into the series with some confidence after a solid start to their 2025-27 WTC campaign. They recently played a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, winning one game and drawing the other. With a points percentage of 66.67, Sri Lanka are currently placed third in the World Test Championship standings.
