India have climbed back to the top of the ICC Men's T20I Team Rankings after a dominant 90-run win over Zimbabwe in the second T20I at Harare on Saturday.

The victory helped the Men in Blue regain the No. 1 ranking just two weeks after they lost it following a 4-0 T20I series defeat against England. India and England are both on 268 rating points, but India are ahead after the ICC's decimal-point calculation.

Ishan Kishan Leads India's Strong Batting Show

After being asked to bat first, India put up a massive total of 219/5 in 20 overs at the Harare Sports Club.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan starred with a brilliant 81 off 44 balls and was the highest scorer for India. Vice-captain Tilak Varma also played a superb knock, remaining unbeaten on 60 from only 29 deliveries.

Zimbabwe failed to chase the target as India's bowlers wrapped up the innings for 129, giving the visitors a comfortable 90-run victory and an unassailable lead in the three-match series.

Ishan Kishan Overtakes Virat Kohli

Kishan's match-winning innings also helped him move past Virat Kohli in an important Indian batting record.

The left-hander has now scored 783 runs in T20Is during the 2026 calendar year from just 22 matches. Kohli had scored 781 runs in 20 T20Is during the 2022 season.

Only two Indian batters have scored more T20I runs in a calendar year than Kishan. Suryakumar Yadav remains at the top with 1,164 runs in 31 matches in 2022, while Abhishek Sharma is second with 859 runs from 21 games in 2025.

Another Record Within Reach

Kishan, who was named Player of the Match for his outstanding innings, has another chance to create history in the third and final T20I against Zimbabwe.

He currently has 370 runs in 12 T20Is this year while playing as India's first-choice wicketkeeper.

If he scores at least 67 runs in the final match, Kishan will break Sanju Samson's record for the most T20I runs in a calendar year by an Indian designated wicketkeeper-batter.

Samson had set the record in 2024 by scoring 436 runs in 12 T20Is as India's regular wicketkeeper.
